OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH & SAFETY/EMPLOYEE WELLNESS PROGRAMME CO-ORDINATOR

DUTIES: OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH & SAFETY (OHS)
  • Responsible for Occupational Health & Safety programmes.
  • Corresponding with the Department of Labour and the Compensation Commissioner on matters of OHS
  • Establishing and facilitating programmes of the OHS Committee and related matters.
  • Investigating accidents, inspecting work activities and reporting on the existence of any dangerous conditions or practices
  • Checking on the availability, condition and use of safety appliances at the Workplace.
  • Formulating safety rules and regulations designed to prevent accidents prevent accidents,
  • Developing and updating safety manuals for each department & the municipality.
  • Ensuring service unit compliance with all aspects of the Machinery and Occupational Safety Act, 1983, and regulations framed there under
  • EMPLOYEE ASSISTANCE PROGRAMME (EAP):
    • Develop an EAP strategy for Bitou Municipality 
    • Planning and Implementing of an annual EAP Education and Development Programme 
    • Manage and Monitor the employee assistance and awareness programmes 
    • Organizing and presenting of EAP training and Workshops 
    • Networking with relevant stakeholders  
    • Developing, implementing or amending policies relating to Employee wellness such as EAP, Smoking, and Substance Abuse etc. 
    • Facilitate the establishment of an Employee Wellness Committee and ensure the effective functioning of this committee.

    • Matric plus an appropriate tertiary qualification in Human Resources/OHS
    • At least one year’s applicable experience in Occupational Health and Safety
    • Proficiency in at least two of the three Western Cape official languages (English, Afrikaans & Xhosa)

    FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Preparing schedules to reflect statutory and other relevant returns, forwarding to the immediate superior for approval and submitting approved reconciled schedules to the respective institutions

    REQUIREMENTS
