Some 11 families that used to live on the dumpsite received Christmas parcels of groceries.

Councillor Tanda visited the transit camp in Kranshoek recently, where she spoke to the residents.

They also received Christmas hampers containing some much-needed groceries. Tanda encouraged the families to plant backyard vegetable gardens. She also took the opportunity to speak about the importance of children and school attendance.

Tanda handed over a food parcel to Ouma, the oldest of the family members. She recently received an identity document and was helped by the municipality’s gender development officer to get her first and second pensions from the national Department of Social Development.
