Backyard Food Gardens is one of the projects introduced by the Gender Development Unit to fight hunger and poverty. Ten disadvantaged beneficiaries in each ward were identified by the Community Development Workers in their respective areas to participate in this project.

The disability Unit identified 25 beneficiaries, who really needed Wheelchairs in the greater Plettenberg Bay. The Eden District Municipality supported the idea and donated 9 wheelchairs, and then Bitou Municipality bought the other 16 wheelchairs.
